League of Legends Review (as of 10th December 2011) (Video coming soon!)

All in all this game rocks.
League of legends is my game of choice for the passed 18 months, I was always a first-person shooter type, was fanatic about counter-strike 1.5 and 1.6 (not source...). Anyways, this game converted me to a completely different genre, and what a different genre it is!
Now I know LoL was not the first of it's kind, but it is definitely up there with originals, it has come up with some unique aspects of it's own and done the genre proud in my opinion.

The genre I'm talking about is Moba. Starting with the all famous Warcraft 3 mod, or map, DotA. Standing for Defense of the Ancients. From what I know, some people who were involved with making DotA made their own game and called it League of Legends. Enough of the history lesso, let's get started on this bad boy.

Pros:
  • The look of this game is crisp, clean and too the point while maintaining it's shininess
  • The thrill of this game is outstanding
  • Great PvP
  • Always growing and changing
  • A huge player base and competitive community
  • It's free!
Cons:
  • Like alot of online game there is plenty of "Go uninstall" "You noobs can't play" etc etc
  • Plenty of people trolling (see above point)
  • A fairly steep learning curve
  • Committed to games of 20mins to 60mins and more.

Let's talk about the cons first.
They really have hit a sweet spot with the looks and engine of this game, it just works. Some games in LoL will have you gripping your mouse tighter than the 'bond' between Mario and Luigi. It is the purest of PvP, which is where it got me hooked, I don't really play games with no PvP value to them. Every couple or few weeks a champion comes out for you to save up for (in-game points) and then to learn. Then they are always tweaking the champions to try keep a balance (which there could probably never be a proper balance, but I haven't put this as a con because I think it brings ore challenges into the game, too keep up with the balances and play to them). There is so many people that play this game, it is incredible. You will never really wait to get into a game. It's free. Explain that? No.

    Now for the cons.
The biggest thing that let's this game down is how hard it is to try and dodge the random trolls ad negative attitude twats that enter almost every game. Again, I suppose you could see this as a unique challenge, but I don't like thinking to myself "ok, lets see how many noobs I have to try carry this game" as a positive thing. This game does take a little getting used to, and to learn all of the champs and what they do so you can think to yourself "ok don't go near that guy cos he'll wtfbbqpwn me" or you could think yourself, I've got about 100hp left and that guy has 500hp left, but I know I can take him". Having this knowledge comes to you, but there is quite a few champions in the game and it keep growing. For myself the last con is a big one. Sometimes I need to go away from the computer without warning and even 5 mins away from one of these games can change everything. A 5v5 summoner's rift (map/gametype) game usually goes for 40mins, but quite often goes longer. A 5v5 Dominion (game type) game goes for 15 - 25 mins. And until it's finished your stuck there unless you want your teammates to rage at you, and if you leave it goes against your profile.

All in all this game rocks. It's an extremely addictive game and very well made.
