League of Legends: Bottom Lane Vayne

A Misclick Gaming video, hopefully the first of many.

It's a guide on playing Vayne in the bottom lane. The video itself needs a bit of tweaking but I'll make sure I fix up the errors in the next video.

Battlefield 3 incoming

So not so long ago, about 12 days ago today. I ended up getting a gaming laptop because I have to go away next year to a mine site for work and lugging a PC around didn't seem all that enticing. I got an MSI GT780DX-215US. It has all sorts of features and i love it. I might even do a review on it. So, as a special promo from www.powernotebooks.com the laptop came with a free copy of Battlefield 3. Well, it was supposed to anyways. When it arrived it didn't have BF3 with it, so i e-mailed the sales rep at www.powernotebooks.com, which is Donald (who is awesome and super helpful), to let him know.

Turns out I was waiting on MSI (or Nvidia) to release the promo copies. So, I have the code to download it now, it's 15GB of download so I'll be downloading it over night tonight and playing it very shortly!

So, won't be long after that, I'll be giving that bad boy a review to let you all know what I think of it. Stay tuned for the review on my MSI laptop and also Battlefield 3 ^_^

The first review

League of Legends Review (as of 10th December 2011) (Video coming soon!)

"All in all this game rocks."
League of legends is my game of choice for the past 18 months, I was always a first-person shooter type, was fanatic about counter-strike 1.5 and 1.6 (not source...). Anyways, this game converted me to a completely different genre, and what a different genre it is!
Now I know LoL was not the first of it's kind, but it is definitely up there with originals, it has come up with some unique aspects of it's own and done the genre proud in my opinion.

The genre I'm talking about is Moba. Starting with the all famous Warcraft 3 mod, or map, DotA. Standing for Defense of the Ancients. From what I know, some people who were involved with making DotA made their own game and called it League of Legends. Enough of the history lesso, let's get started on this bad boy.

Pros:
  • The look of this game is crisp, clean and too the point while maintaining it's shininess
  • The thrill of this game is outstanding
  • Great PvP
  • Always growing and changing
  • A huge player base and competitive community
  • It's free!
Cons:
  • Like alot of online game there is plenty of "Go uninstall" "You noobs can't play" etc etc
  • Plenty of people trolling (see above point)
  • A fairly steep learning curve
  • Committed to games of 20mins to 60mins and more.

Let's talk about the pros first.
They really have hit a sweet spot with the looks and engine of this game, it just works. Some games in LoL will have you gripping your mouse tighter than the 'bond' between Mario and Luigi. It is the purest of PvP, which is where it got me hooked, I don't really play games with no PvP value to them. Every couple or few weeks a champion comes out for you to save up for (in-game points) and then to learn. Then they are always tweaking the champions to try keep a balance (which there could probably never be a proper balance, but I haven't put this as a con because I think it brings more challenges into the game, too keep up with the balances and play to them). There is so many people that play this game, it is incredible. You will never really wait to get into a game. It's free. Explain that? No.

Now for the cons.
The biggest thing that let's this game down is how hard it is to try and dodge the random trolls ad negative attitude twats that enter almost every game. Again, I suppose you could see this as a unique challenge, but I don't like thinking to myself "ok, lets see how many noobs I have to try carry this game" as a positive thing. This game does take a little getting used to, and to learn all of the champs and what they do so you can think to yourself "ok don't go near that guy cos he'll wtfbbqpwn me" or you could think yourself, I've got about 100hp left and that guy has 500hp left, but I know I can take him". Having this knowledge comes to you, but there is quite a few champions in the game and it keeps growing. For myself the last con is a big one. Sometimes I need to go away from the computer without warning and even 5 mins away from one of these games can change everything. A 5v5 summoner's rift (map/gametype) game usually goes for 40mins, but quite often goes longer. A 5v5 Dominion (game type) game goes for 15 - 25 mins. And until it's finished your stuck there unless you want your teammates to rage at you, and if you leave it goes against your profile.

All in all this game rocks. It's an extremely addictive game and very well made.

Steam givaway and reduced prices

So Steam is doing a promotion at the moment and, from what I understand, this is how it works:

There is 2 ways to be a winner; You can get lucky and hope that on one of the 10 days they choose to make a game that you want a 'featured' sale item (at which i think the price is reduced by 75%); or the other option is that you have 10 items in your Steam wishlist, then visit the 'featured' game of the day and you could win 1 of 10 copies.

So, pretty sweet right? Well, I spose it is. It didn't make me sit up til the next day to see the next game to be reduced, but it did prompt me to fill out my wishlist. Fingers crossed I suppose but my hopes aren't high considering how many people use Steam and they aren't giving away many copies.

Which brings me to my next point. A realisation rather. There aren't that many big titles at the moment that really contend with each other. The only real contenders with each other are CoD:MW3 and BF3. Apart from that the only other really big name at the moment is Skyrim, who in my book was lucky to get so popular in a gaming world that's heading for the "Is it online?",  "No", "Oh... I don't want it" generation. Although I say, well done Bethesda, well done.

Welcome!

Welcome to Misclick Gaming.

This blog is going to do the best it can to keep up with the latest news on games. All sorts of games ranging from console to PC, casual to competitive.
The facts will always be stated where possible but be warned this blog will be subject to my opinions, which will at some times be quite strong ^_^

Speaking of opinions, I LOVE competitive gaming, and whilst I will be doing my best to cover all types of games if there is a choice between doing a review on the latest Sam and max game or covering the results of WCG, there will be a clear winner (and it's not Sam and Max).

Once again welcome to Misclick Gaming Blog, enjoy.
